T-Shirt Inspiration

Based in the Scriptures John 2:13-17

" In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!” His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”"

Jesus flipped the tables of the merchants in the Temple of Jerusalem to protest the corruption and exploitation that was occuring there.

In the Courts of the temple, merchants, people who would sell the animals for sacrifice, and coin exchangers were trying to make a profit off the temple by selling at high prices to those who came to worship. Those who did not bring their own animals, due to the long journey from home and very high standards, had very little choice but to pay these high prices.

Jesus saw how these people who came with hearts ready to worship were being prevented from doing so because of the price gouging that was happening and this was never how it was supposed to be.

So Jesus came and removed the barriers that were preventing worship, just like he removed the ultimate barrier of our sin through His Body on the Cross so that we could enter the Most Holy Place (God's Presence) without guilt or shame but with confidence knowing that He purchased our way in.

The Zeal that consumed Jesus was a Zeal for true fully surrendered worship with nothing to obstruct it from happening, a Zeal that the House of our Father would be kept clean and pure and for spiritual worship.

Something interesting is that in Ephesians Paul will say that we are being built as a holy temple to the Lord and that we are being built up to be the dwelling place of God through which he lives by His Spirit.

There is a calling then to keep our hearts clean and pure, to not allow for anything to take away from our singular purpose of worshipping God with our lives.
